Shower Repairs in The Gap
Drips overnight, a spray that never warms properly, or a flow gone thin: most shower trouble comes down to one small worn part rather than the whole bathroom. We take shower repairs The Gap wide, from the head back to the pipework behind the tiles, and every job is done by a licensed plumber. Homes across The Gap run from 1940s fibro to 2000s brick, so we see every fitting era in a single week.

Why Showers Drip, Run Cold or Lose Flow
Three faults cover most shower trouble: a drip that keeps going once everything is shut off, water that never warms properly, and a spray gone thin.
The drip that won't quit
the mixer is the culprit, where a worn internal seal or cartridge lets water escape past it. A brief run of leftover water after use is nothing to fret over.
Water that stays lukewarm
a cartridge past its best drags extra cold into the blend. When every hot outlet in the home has gone cold together, the fault lies with the water heater instead.
A weak or patchy spray
limescale clogging the spray holes, a flow limiter built into the head, or the same tired cartridge can all starve the flow. A whole house running weak is a supply problem we treat separately.
Seepage while it runs
water weeping at the thread where head meets arm, only during a shower, tells you that joint has loosened or its seal has perished.

Repair or Replace Your Shower Fittings
Swap the fitting out when wear has gone deeper than a washer or cartridge can fix, or when a new outlet is going in or the shower is moving. A mixer with one tired part inside a sound body is worth repairing, and a repair costs less than a replacement.
A few rules shape the choice:
- New fittings need WaterMark certification before a licensed plumber can legally install them, plus registration with the WELS water-rating scheme.
- In a Queensland rental, the showerhead needs to deliver no more than 9 litres per minute before the landlord can pass water costs on to the tenant.
- Brand-new homes need a showerhead of at least 3 stars under that scheme; renovations are exempt.
- Putting in a new outlet or moving the shower counts as notifiable work. No council permit applies, but we send a Form 4 to the QBCC within 10 business days of finishing. The lodgement fee, if we pass it on, shows in your quote.
When the job grows past one fitting, see our bathroom renovation plumbing guide for the stages of a full redo, and vanity and basin installation for the bench-side half of the room.

From the Shower Head Back to the Wall
From the outlet inward, the parts are the head, the arm or rail behind it, the hose feeding a handheld set, and the mixer in the wall.
Shower head
the spray end, which anyone can unscrew and replace.
Shower arm
carries water from inside the wall across to a fixed head, and sits in reach without opening anything up.
Rail
holds a handheld head at your chosen height, fed by the wall outlet.
Mixer and cartridge
the cartridge governs the flow and the temperature blend, so wear appears as dripping, a grinding handle or water that won't hold its temperature. Getting at a mixer inside the wall means opening the wall.
Diverter
on a bath-and-shower combo, water running from the spout mid-shower, or from the head during a bath, tells you the diverter has worn out.

What Owners May Fix and What Needs a Plumber
Yes, a shower head is the one part anyone can replace; the arm, mixer and cartridge are licensed-plumber territory. The QBCC lists the head swap as unregulated work, though the work still needs to comply with the standards.
Everything else splits two ways:
Minor work
fixing, swapping or removing a fixture needs a licensee, with no permit and no paperwork to the QBCC.
Notifiable work
a fresh outlet or a relocated shower, which we report on a Form 4 after we finish.

Showers Across a Valley of Mixed Eras
Growth across the wider area ran at 4.6 per cent over five years, and 29 dwellings were approved in 2021-22 alone, so brand-new bathrooms now sit beside ones on their third set of fittings. Blocks climbing toward Paten Park also shift over time, and that slow movement works on joints behind tiled shower walls. The rest of the room's jobs are on our bathroom plumbing page.

Shower Questions From The Gap
Call (07) 3524 7137Can a plumber fix my shower in The Gap?
Yes, heads, arms, rails, hoses, mixers and cartridges are all ours to repair or replace. Water finding its way out of the shower recess is a separate job from the fittings, so mention which one you're seeing when you ring.
Why is my shower head dripping when the water is off?
A drip that persists with the taps closed points to the mixer's washer or cartridge, not the head. A short run of leftover water straight after washing is normal and needs no attention.
Why does my shower run cold?
A worn cartridge can over-chill the blend. If hot water has vanished at every tap in the house, the water heater needs the attention, and we handle those jobs too.
Who fixes a shower mixer in a The Gap unit?
Pipes serving one lot only, inside its boundary, are the lot owner's to maintain. A shower tray also falls to the lot owner or occupier even where it isn't inside the lot. Arrange the repair and we'll take care of the mixer.
When should I replace a shower instead of repairing it?
Replace once wear has gone beyond a simple washer or cartridge fix, or when an outlet is added or the shower is being relocated. One tired part in a sound mixer is usually worth repairing.
